Most negotiations in the real world are filled with mistakes, missed opportunities, and strategic blunders. That's because all humans rely on their intuitions, but sometimes our intuitions get it wrong -- leading to suboptimal negotiation behavior.

It's time to fight back against our flawed intuitions. But how?

I've spent the last 20 years researching negotiation and influence at NUS, HKUST, Stanford, and Harvard. I've taught negotiation to CEOs, founders, and undergrads. Here are the two key reasons why even seasoned negotiators still have flawed intuitions:

MISSING SPARRING PARTNER. To get better at negotiation, you need to practice. But to practice, you need someone else who will negotiate with you. Unfortunately, most people don't have an on-demand sparring partner.
MISSING GUIDANCE SYSTEM. Real negotiations offer little or no feedback. When we do get feedback, it rarely tells us what we need to know ("Did I just make a mistake, and what should I have done instead?"). And finally, feedback comes AFTER mistakes have already been made -- when it's too late to stop them.
